I'm responding to a post from another blog, on the topic of gay marriage. The link is here http://jokerstotheright.blogspot.com/2005/03/sequelexplaining-gay-marriage.html
In the words of one of the best characters in the history of cinema..."well, allow me to retort". In your argument premise number two is inherently flawed, because your stating that "God made Man and Woman for the purposes of procreation." So according to this argument any heterosexual, married couple, that does not procreate is disobeying Gods word, so should we now legislate that you must have a child if you wish to be married?
Premise number four causes problems because homosexual urges are not sinful. People throw the word sin around a lot, but in actuality there are only Ten Commandments, hence Ten sins. Unless i missed the eleventh commandment, "Thou shalt not commit acts of homosexuality."
Finally the last two premises can be attacked in one fell swoop. I understand that your Judeo-Christian values tell you that gay marriage is wrong, and thats fine. It is your right to believe that. But the fact of the matter is that we have the freedom to practice whatever religion we like, and practice it in whatever way we like. So to say that YOU are oppressed if we allow gay marriage is ludicrous. No one is going to be shoving it in your face, and no one is saying you have to recognize or respect gay marriage, but the fact of the matter is that a gay persons right to equality is still the most important thing. So why should we oppress them instead of you? Because your interpretation Judeo-Christian values trumps even our own Constitution, give me a break.

wow... your argument about the 10 commandments is the most shallow i've ever seen in my life. 10 commandments thus 10 sins.
I'll keep it basic and focus on 1: Do not murder. Does that simply mean killing someone? Why did God include it? Because God is a God of Life- and he wants us too to be able to live life to it's fullest. But when you tear someone down with words, and take away their happiness... isn't that in effect stopping them from living life to it's fullest? Or when one yells at another to put them down so they feel better about themselves- doesn't that hurt the one person- and take away from "life" and living it to it's fullest, something that's beautiful and awesome- how God created it... isn't that really an act of murder to?
Your argument is so shallow- and has no depth. This is the problem with many who want homosexual rights- they try to get them by attacking judeo-christian values, and in reality know nothing about it...
So are you saying that non Jews and non Christians shouldn't get married either? I mean, if they don't follow the love perscribed by your god, how do we know they really do love eachother and will not just bring down our society?
Your argument could well be applied to the side supporting gay marriage. You're using your beliefs to murder the beliefs of others. Marriage is an institution that spans faiths. In fact, several Christian churches will marry people of the same sex. Marriage also exists in Buddhism, Hinduism, and various other "pagan" belief systems. Your beliefs are not superior to any others. I hate to break it to you, but Christianity is just another religion like so many others out there. It has no special place in the Constitution.
Since this country was established with the idea that religion would not be imposed on it's citizens, I say keep the Bible out of the law, my bedroom, and away from my love.
By the way, I am pleased to say that over 120 couples were symbolically wed today at the Haven marry-In. I presided over the unions of several people myself. In addition, 350 letters were signed and will be sent to legislators all over the country in opposition of the proposed constitutional ban on same sex marriage. Thanks to all who showed their support!
Derepublican,...if you would like to talk about symbolic murder, how about murdering someone by saying they are not as good as you are, and they are not worthy of the beauty of marriage just because they do not love someone of the opposite sex, as you say God presecribed love. And I'm insulted at your attack of my interpretation of Judeo-Christian values. I have read the Bible front to back, and I am a practicing Roman-Catholic, and by practicing I mean i attend church regularly. So do not try to tell me that your interpretation of the Bible and the Ten Commandments is any better than mine because its not. The Bible is just an ambiguous book open to interpretation, and I have my interpretation, and you have yours, but neither of our interpretations deserve to be legislated, the only thing that needs to be legislated is that under our Constitution, all people were created equal. So there is no reason why homosexual couples should not marry.
I'm with Jeff and Frank on this one.
The problem with people who don't want same sex rights is that they try to extend their beliefs across the entire nation.
THIS WILL NOT WORK!!!
Doing so would create a represive government and would only START with violating the rights of same sex couples.
Unlike the bible, the constitution is NOT up for interpretation (or at least it shouldn't be) and states clearly the criteria to be met to ensure equality among all. You cannot pick and choose who the constitution applies to.
Once you violate same sex couples rights a) it's no longer a democracy. b) There is nothing to stop further violations of human rights.
How is this any better then say, hmmmm..... The Taliban?
Peg City Kid, I agree with the outcome of your argument, however, I don't agree with you saying "the Constitution is NOT up for interpretation." If it wasn't up for interpretation there would be no need for the Supreme Court. I believe the Constitution should always remain in tact as a guiding set of laws by which to live, however, with changing times testing the pliability of that document, interpretation will always be needed to maintain its effectiveness.
